The obvious explanation for Chappie's call name is the pair of "chaps" he sports on his backside. His call name actually led to his registered name as one of our best friend's nickname is Chappie. The human Chappie is one heck of a flirt and so "Ladies Man" seemed like an appropriate name for this young hopeful we were hoping would develop into a fine stud dog someday.
We paired Chappie's parents, INT CH, VC Sharp Shooters Fast as You and INT CH, VC Sharp Shooters Hot Rod MH, because their hunting styles are so equally matched. Both are relentless while pursuing pheasants in cattails, tree rows, or CRP. The heavier the cover, the happier they are because they seem to know it makes it easier to pin their prey. Rev is probably the best duck blind dog we've ever had because of his patient and easy going manner. We repeated the breeding three times because we have been so impressed with the results. Consistently they are what Clyde likes to call, "No B.S. hunting dogs." The kind who like to hunt with you all day without you having to say a word to them.
Chappie has the markings of his mother, but is wired more like his father. He retrieves and backs naturally, and is as happy crashing through cattails as he is storming after ducks in North Dakota potholes. He loves to soak up a little sun in the house but won't pass up a game of tug-of-war with whoever the latest addition to the family pack is. We often say he's the soul of his grandfather INT CH, VC Shooting Starr's Sharp Shooter MH reincarnated.
It's a given we wouldn't keep a dog for our breeding program that isn't an exceptional hunting dog. Chappie has all the natural talent, drive and style we could want out of a breeding. What makes him particularly special is he has all that while maintaining a calm and loving disposition. Chappie has stolen our hearts and we are sure he is a perfect addition to our breeding program and hunting crew.
Chappie is available for stud to approved dams, which includes Hip certification, no teeth, bite, or eye conditions, current vaccinations, a Brucella Titer test and acceptable NAVHDA, AKC, NSTRA or other hunting dog trial results.
