Joy was the product of INT CH, VC Shooting Starr’s Sharp Shooter, MH and VC Tess Von Klana Spirit MH. These impressive parents passed on to Joy an intense desire to produce game yet an abundance of cooperation that made her an excellent hunter of wild game, a calm house pet and a dog eager to learn each phase of the NAVHDA training and testing program. Joy’s genetics supplied her with an intense point, natural backing, high desire, an uncanny ability to retrieve downed game and the spirit of cooperation that made her such a pleasure to hunt with.
Joy’s 112 NA score and her 201UT score were just a small indication of her abilities in the field and flooded timber. She LIVED to hunt. During the annual fall and spring migration of woodcock through my backyard Joy pointed well over 250 wild woodcock annually. Each year we took a week to hunt grouse, woodcock and pheasant in Pennsylvania, a week in Kansas pursuing quail, pheasant and prairie chickens, and then every remaining weekend in Maryland hunting quail, ducks or geese. Joy’s retrieval of downed wood ducks in the flooded timber and swamps is legendary. Joy’s stamina, desire, and cooperation carried her through those weeks of hunting seemingly effortlessly until the very end. The prairies miss her today!
Joy was owned by Chip Bonde of Maryland.
