The goal at Sharp Shooter’s Kennel is to produce German shorthaired pointer puppies that will mature into truly versatile hunting companions with impeccable instincts. Dogs aren’t added to the breeding program until they have proven themselves as hunting dogs, have met stringent conformation and health criteria and have successfully tested in sanctioned hunting trials. We test their skills early....
Creating puppies that are hunting partners and family companions is our number one priority. We believe testing programs from organizations like the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association and the American Kennel Club are excellent tools to help evaluate each dog’s inherent potential.
Since pups end up all across the country, we require all pups be run in and pass a NAVHDA Natural Ability test so we can get an understanding of what each breeding produces. (See NAVHDA's test rules book for more information) To date, Sharp Shooter’s Kennel has been awarded eight of NAVHDA’s prestigious Invitational Breeder Awards, 11 Utility Breeders Awards and 26 Natural Ability Breeders Awards.
Because we all live with our dogs 365 days a year and certainly don't get to hunt that many, we know breeding for mental stability and personality is a primary focus for our puppy owners. That's why we spend countless hours socializing, playing and introducing our puppies to all kinds of situations before they go home. Sometimes the simplest toys can provide the longest hours of play....
Just as important as breeding for talent and temperament is breeding dogs with good structure. While no dog is perfect, we strive to combine parents who will create pups that accurately reflect the breed standard. We always recommend that puppy buyers focus on talent, personality and conformation when selecting puppies. We realize preferences for color do play into the equation and while we do our best to get puppy buyers the color of puppy they want, we cannot guarantee a particular litter will produce the color and pattern they had hoped for. We give buyers the option to wait for future litters if color is a priority for them, but we do not refund deposits based on being unable to meet your color preference.
You may see other kennels who promote our dogs on their websites. We have been blessed with many talented dogs and while Sharp Shooter dogs will be in the pedigrees of other litters, it doesn't inherently mean it's how, or if, we would approach particular pairings. If it's not posted on our website we cannot comment on a specific litter or kennel.
Since puppies are not always available, it’s recommended you contact the kennel early, as there is usually a lengthy waiting list. Most litters never make it to the website as it's common for people to get on a waiting list two-three years in advance of a breeding. Sharp Shooters Kennel reserves the right to keep a puppy from any litter. We do our absolute best to pair our pups with the right families. Please do not be offended if we feel a litter is not right for you.
